Week 3!
Hello Blog!
The museum was closed on Monday, so no internship that day. Today was the only day of work for this week! I did so much today in preparation for beginning my semester project. Last week, I did a lot of research on the Florida standards for Civics and Government (6-12th grade) and noted down some of the standards that I wanted to utilize for my education lesson plan project. I built off of that by noting down past activities I did relating to some Florida education standards and describing what it was and why I liked it and what worked with it. It did allow me a chance to reflect and build off of what I have already done.
In relation to that, I also came up with new ideas and new activities that relates to some of the standards I had previously listed. It gave me a chance to brainstorm and come up with something new, which was a very fun task. I am learning a lot about my specific style when it comes to learning and teaching. I am a very hands on person, so a lot of activities that I came up with reflected that. While working on these, I became excited at the chance that my ideas may help school children learn about a topic that I really enjoy! While the bulk of my work won't come until next week, when I shadow the Civics Tour the museum has, I feel like I got a lot done today.
So far, my experience has been great! Because of this, I feel a little bit more professional and prepared when I graduate and step out into 'the real world'. This was not an environment I was used to before coming in, but now I have adapted to a routine. I have my Orange County ID badge now and my own desk in an office area, and it does make me feel a little bit grown up. I leave my apartment as a UCF student, come in as an intern, and leave as a student again, but the transition between them feels so easy now.
I am excited to continue my journey as a History Education Intern! I feel prepared to begin working on my project and immersing myself in that work. I am a little nervous to see how it will come out, but I think it will be great!
Until Next Time,
Sabrina.
